4 Fun Things to Do at Your Trade Show Booth to Attract Traffic
With the time and expense involved in attending a trade show, you want to take every step possible to get crowds to your booth. Nobody wants to be one of the lonely tradeshow displays no one stops at except to ask where someone else’s booth is. Here’s how to assure your tradeshow booth display is one of the top attractions at the event.
1) Build Momentum Pre-Event
Most of the times exhibitions are opportunities to gain new customers. Yet most companies ignore the potential of engaging with existing clients. Few realize that engaging correctly with your existing audience before the event is the best way to secure an army of advocates on the show floor.
Find out if the organizer of your trade show makes the list of pre-registered attendees available to exhibitors. Since they are already planning to come to the show, you can focus on getting them to find your booth. Reach out to these contacts prior to the show. Offer an incentive that encourages them to visit you during the show. Don’t forget to contact your current customers and prospects located in the geographic area of the show and offer them a VIP pass to the show. Promote your attendance often across as many touch points as possible – on your website, in trade publication ads, emails, even on quotes and invoices!
2) Make it Fun
One way to make your booth stand out from the crowd at a trade show is to make it fun, such as adding a game element to your display. For example, a game where visitors need to spin a wheel in order to win a prize relevant to your business is a great way to attract visitors while also advertising your products.
Raffles and other prize giveaways can dramatically increase the traffic at your booth. Make it easy for people to enter your contest by asking for a tweet or a text message with the person’s contact information. To attract the greatest number of prospects, keep the contest closely aligned with your product, service, or brand.
However, be sure to get contact information from players in exchange for participating.
3) Use Social Media
In this day and age, social media is becoming the most popular and convenient way of promoting your business and drive traffic to your tradeshow event.
Your Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, and Google Plus followers are the first step to garnering attention to your booth. Generate excitement ahead of time, and use Twitter hashtags, Facebook Events, and YouTube videos to promote your booth.
Here are several ways of using social media to promote your exhibit display.

-
- While you are at the convention, tweet your followers and let them know what’s going on at your trade show booth and where they can find your exhibit on the show floor.
- During the tradeshow, keep the conversation going. Offer freebies and prizes for anyone who retweets or shares your news. Also, keep an eye out for any comments attendees make about the event or your booth.
- If possible, set up a live newscast from the booth to let everyone know what’s going on and what’s coming next that they won’t want to miss.
- Use hash tags with the name of the event to make it easier for other tweeters to find you.
- Have a call to action such as “The next 30 people to stop by my trade show booth will win a special gift.”
- Post pictures and videos on Vimeo, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube and other related sites.

4) Supply free Wi-Fi
You’d think that every exhibit hall or trade show venue would offer free Wi-Fi to all comers, yet connectivity remains a major issue at many industry gatherings. Capitalize on this shortcoming by providing wireless access to your booth, trading the password for people’s contact info and providing a place to sit.
