4 Tips to use QR Codes effectively in marketing
What is a QR code?
A QR(Quick Response) Code is a specific type of two-dimensional barcode that can be scanned by a dedicated QR barcode reader or camera to open up a web link, photo, video or other media. They generally are a mix of black and white squares and pixels, but some can be customized with different colors or even logos and pictures. With their explosive popularity, many different free generators are now available online or as standalone apps and programs. Many companies use qr codes in marketing to cross promote across different mediums, like printing a QR code on a series of posters that links to a special related offer on their website.
While it’s easy to create a QR code, it’s not always easy to use one effectively. To get the most out of your QR code at New York trade shows, follow these tips:
Make sure it’s visible
One of the biggest mistakes people make with QR codes at trades shows is printing them too small or placing them somewhere people won’t see them. Obviously it won’t help you if no one uses it, so make sure your QR code is printed loud and proud in multiple places throughout your trade show display.
Create a good landing page
A landing page is exactly what it sounds like- a page that visitors will initially land on once they click an ad or, in this case, follow a link to your site. For a lot of clients this may be your only chance to deliver your pitch, so make sure it’s written well with a clear message for readers. Make it interesting and always add a clear call to action at the bottom- whether you want clients to sign up for an email list or buy today, make your intentions and message obvious. Many companies use this opportunity to offer an incentive or prize, like a free trial subscription or small gift for those who sign up.
Talk about it!
Don’t just print out some QR codes and leave them around your table, no one will just scan things randomly to see where they go. Tell your staff at your booth about the QR code, the landing page it leads to and any special offers so they can adequately explain the technology to visitors. While the New York City subways may be full of QR codes, not everyone has the technology or knows how to use it. Show visitors how to download a reader if necessary and how to scan and make sure that people are actually using your code.
Check your connection
Most convention centers have open wi-fi or some kind of internet setup, but it may be slow or spotty. Always check the connection of the venue to make sure visitors will have access to internet or mobile data before utilizing QR codes.
